penny

For just a penny more on a $4 coffee drink, we can…

… expand currently impacted Fresno State programs: Nursing, Criminology, Engineering and other Science, Technology, and Math courses.

… increase Fresno State’s capacity to accept and offer scholarships to low-income Valley students.

… update Fresno State’s facilities and equipment to provide a safe, world-class education right here.

… help Fresno State create thousands of local jobs and turn out more top graduates to fill them.

… have an independent citizen oversight team accountable to us — ensuring that every dollar is spent according to Measure E guidelines. All meetings will be public and the Citizens’ Oversight Committee is required to publish annual financial audits.

Why Vote Yes on
Measure E?

This will do for Fresno State what Measure Z did for the Zoo!  Let’s keep that momentum going!

It will boost our local economy by adding jobs in our community. A skilled workforce translates into more dollars for the Valley.

Careers

The Valley needs more nurses, more public safety personnel, more agriculturalists and more engineers and scientists.

Students are being turned away in areas where the needs are greatest.

While Fresno State does receive funding from the State, it isn’t nearly enough to maintain current campus facilities, let alone expand facilities to meet the needs of our local students.

Measure E would provide the necessary funds to repair outdated classrooms and labs, and upgrade and expand the campus to meet the growing demands and opportunities of our students.

More and expanded programs equate to more students, more graduates, and more jobs.

Creating Jobs

This measure will create nearly 27,000 jobs over 25 years.

Fresno State is an essential resource for students seeking an education that provides the career training, technical knowledge, and specialized skills to compete for high-paying careers.

This measure will generate over $5.7 billion in economic activity, all while expanding access to college degrees for thousands of Fresno County families.

For every penny we invest in Measure E, we get a nickel back in economic value.

Accountability

This measure contains tough fiscal accountability.

This measure requires open meetings, public disclosure of all spending, annual independent financial audits, and a citizens’ oversight committee. By law, at least two-thirds of all funds will be used to improve academic programs.

All funds will remain local and cannot be taken by the county, state or federal government or diverted to other purposes. These fiscal safeguards will ensure funds will be used efficiently, effectively, and as promised.

Facilities & Equipment

Many of the classrooms at Fresno State were built decades ago in the 1960’s, and are still in use today. These buildings are in need of essential health, safety and technology improvements.

Funds from this measure will be used to safely remove hazardous material including lead paint, asbestos and mold, repair leaky roofs and deteriorating restrooms, replace outdated fire, life, safety and security systems so students can learn in the safe and healthy environment that they need and deserve.

Campus Security

The security and safety of the Fresno State campus and surrounding neighborhoods are a major concern.

This measure will help improve video security cameras and lighting, emergency response systems, and training to better prepare for emergencies on campus, including active shooter situations.

In short, Measure E is an investment in Fresno County. Measure E is a proposed 0.25% sales tax for Fresno County that will provide approximately $63,000,000 annually for 25 years. These funds will be spent on deferred maintenance of critical health and safety facilities, building new state-of-the art classrooms and labs for nursing, engineering, criminology, agriculture, water and other disciplines, an endowment for scholarships to deserving local students and veterans, another endowment to provide sustainable funding for annual maintenance, affordable student housing and parking among other priorities.

This will do for Fresno State what Measure Z did for the Zoo!  Let’s keep that momentum going!

It will boost our local economy by adding jobs in our community. A skilled workforce translates into more dollars for the Valley.

  • Updating campus safety platforms
